Hello Parents and Trap shooters!!
Yep, the time has come. October 27 and 28. We will be traveling to Hilbert Wisconsin to pheasant hunt at a game preserve run by Mike Schroeder. This trip is for shooters who have shot at least one season. If you are a new fall shooter, you can attend if accompanied by a parent or have a parent sponsor who is on the trip! Parents, please speak to me first before deciding to go. Parents are strongly encouraged to bring a gun and join the fun. If you need extra guns feel free to ask.
We will not have a mandatory starting place on Friday or have to travel together. Families feel free to coordinate with others, and stay in contact with me so we know who is traveling, and understand each other's whereabouts on Friday! A group text will go out on Friday so everyone that is going can stay in communication.
THIS STOP IS A REQUIREMENT!
We will be making a MANDATORY STOP 2:00 Central (3:00 Eastern) at the Wisconsin EAA Aviation Museum
EAA Aviation Museum
3000 Poberezny Rd, Oshkosh, WI 54902
(920)-426-4818 https://www.eaa.org/eaa-museum
There is a Cabela’s and a Bass Pro shop between here and Manitowoc. The closest ones are in Indiana, but also one in the Gurnee Mall. There is also one north of Milwaukee, but a bit out of the way. If stopping, with GPS you should easily be able to determine how much time it will take to get to the Museum.
From the museum we can stop and grab a supper and then travel to the Ox-bow club in Hilbert for some trap and games. I have set up a 7:00 pm start time. It will be cooler there so bring something warmer in case you need it. Last year we shot till almost 1 am!
Saturday morning we will conduct the hunt with the help of Mr. Pappenfus’ brother Mark and some other club members, who have hunting dogs.
In the afternoon we can continue the hunt or just toss some clays. Departure on Saturday will depend upon the afternoon choices. Probable departure around 2 - 4 pm.
BRING SOME ORANGE if you have it! Hat, Vest.
We will have a morning hunt so bring long pants and extra shoes/boots to change into as the dew will still be on the knee high grass.
Bring Ammo:
This depends upon what you shoot. If you have a flat, bring it as you can shoot as much as you want. Otherwise I’d suggest at least 4 boxes of 7 or 8 shot per person for trap at the Ox-bow club, and one box (you could share this one) of 4,5 or 6 shot for the hunt. I will have extra shells we can shoot for games on Friday night and let me know if you don’t want to buy a whole box for Saturday and I’ll have some extra to split with whomever. I will also have extra ammo to buy.. If we would release 2 birds each we would have 15 -18 (usually 2 or 3 at a time) birds in the field. That would be a nice hunt.
Cost schedule:
Shells/trap Bring your own shells and then the trap round cost is the usual $3-4. We will collect this at the club.
You will have to eat Friday and Saturday, figure your own costs.
Cost of hotel/lodging: If we all stay together at the Days Inn I can get us a discount. I need to know no later than Thursday. There may be a low cost alternative but you do have to ask. Don’t let it be a deterrent.
Students - $33 each, parents can shoot - $36 each (not shooting $11). This is for the birds and museum, no license needed for this trip! Get to me, or the website by October 7!
